Gilles Vigneault, born in Natashquan, Québec, Canada October 27, 1928, is the most widely known author-poet-composer-performer in the province and the Francophone world as a whole.

He studied at Université Laval, and was involved in poetry and theatre. He started off his carreer as a poet and teacher, but began singing publically in 1960, and has been so doing since. In the 1970s, he became very engaged in politics, and his songs reflected his attitude. He toured in english-speaking Canada, and became known across the country. In 1980, he lobbied for the separation of the nation of Québec from the country of Canada. He writes songs, poems, and short stories for adult and child audiences.

He has toured Québec, France, Belgium and Switzerland. He possesses quite a few honourary doctorates from universities in Ontario, Québec, and France.

My favourite song by Gilles Vigneault is Tout l'monde est malheureux.

He has published two children's plays, Titom, and Léo à Vélo.
