The Fry Guys are the least creature-like of the McDonald's PlayLand/Happyland characters. They are essentially pom-poms, mop-heads or Koosh balls on rollerskates.

In no way do they resemble french fries. If I recall correctly form the commercials of the 70s they were a bit bashful and always trying to hide. One would think they'd realize that brightly colored mops don't exactly blend into their surroundings.
