A virtuoso trumpeter from Indianapolis; he and Woody Shaw were the young Wynton Marsalis figures (minus the power trip) of the early 60's. Impresssive technique, but he never really fit in with the avant-gardists of that era - he soon sold out&to play weak soul jazz, and, later, recorded disco-fied "jazz" for CBS; they were lucrative skeletons in his discographical closet. He "returned to the fold" in the 80's and 90's. Amen.
