One night I went to a club downtown

and everyone there looked like Marilyn Monroe.

The guy at the door looked like Marilyn Monroe.

The bartender too.

All the customers looked like Marilyn Monroe.

I sat down by a man with a seeing-eye dog.

Even the dog looked like Marilyn Monroe.

I went to the restroom to powder my nose.

In the mirror I looked like Marilyn Monroe.

Every face in the place was Marilyn Monroe's.

Not Marilyn Monroe like you see on the screen

in “Some Like It Hot” or “Let’s Make Love.”

Or even “The Misfits” Marilyn Monroe.

Marilyn Monroe the way she looks now.

Dead sixty years.

Worms all gone.

I went back in the club.

There was laughter and music.

The night was young, the liquor flowed.

I thought to myself,

things could always be worse.

We could’ve all looked like DiMaggio.
