Listening to electronic music makes it easier for me to enter codeflow. This applies not just to straight electronica, but also to trip-hop, some ambient and the less dissonant industrial forms. There's something about a strong, steady beat mixed with a graceful progression of melodic tones that makes coding easier. My theory is that the beat regularity gives my thought processes a smoother rhythm, enhancing my ability to think logically, while the complex melodies stimulate the intuitive and emotional parts of my brain to provide necessary insights. The combination of these factors allows me to write more elegant code at greater speed.

I would invite the reader to test this theory with Juno Reactor, Delerium, Orbital, Information Society, Morcheeba and Portishead.
