Eero Tarasti (born 09/27/1948 in Helsinki) is a Finnish musicologist and semiotician. He is currently professor of musicology and semiotics at Helsinki University. He has written numerous books about subjects concerning signification in music, including his book A Theory of Musical Semiotics in which he combines the theories of Ernst Kurth, A.J. Greimas and C.S. Peirce to form a analytic model which helps explain the narration in music. He is also one of the founders of the International Semiotics Institute in Imatra, Finland.
