I am working as gaffer on a proto-SF film. The scene involves humankind's first landing on the moon. One of the lead characters, a female astronaut, slowly removes her helmet, confident that she will be able to breathe as she does on Earth. The others watch in anticipation. The moment she removes her helmet, her face begins to quickly shrivel up, as though every molecule of her face were collapsing. It's a great special effect for a low budget film, and the crew are very proud. I hope to get my photograph taken with the shrivelled-up actor, but she's already been re-inflated.

I am walking downtown, past a bar that has been closed for years. On this night it is open and there is no cover. I walk in to discover that Richard Thompson is playing.
