Real Name - Malcomb (Mac) John Rebennac
Born 11/21/40 in New Orleans

His career in the music world has now spanned four decades and he's covered just about every aspect that you can cover. From greasy kid rock 'n roller to producer, writer, sideman, psychedelic rock icon, jingle creator and blues and jazz musician, you name it -he's done it. To quote Dr. John - "Whatever I had to do to get the job did."

Mostly known for his New Orleans style of music, Dr. John brought a physical and visual aspect to his show that added to the music. Back in the late 60's and early 70's pyschedelic era, his shows were a celebration of everything that was and is New Orleans. Tossing glitter and dressed in greasepaint, feathers, snakeskin and bright colors, Dr John brought the flavor of Mardi Gras to stages around the world.

Dr John/Mac Rebennack has collaborated on many projects with artists such as the O'Jays, Phil Spector, Professor Longhair, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Allen Toussaint, The Meters, Average White Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, The Allman Brothers, Maria Muldaur, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Kate Smith, Ricki Lee Jones, Levon Helm and Van Morrison to name a few. He also appeared on The Band's farewell film, The Last Waltz, performing " Such a Night".

Has won two Grammy Awards - most recent being in 1993 for Best Traditional Blues Album for Goin' Back to New Orleans and another for his duet with Ricki Lee Jones for Makin' Whoopee. For a taste of Dr John's music and more about him and his contribution to the music world, I'd recommend The Dr John Anthology released on Rhino Records in 1993. The following are the songs covered on the anthology. All songs written by Mac Rebennack aka Dr John unless otherwise noted.
