The Double Corona is the largest 'classic' cigar size. Cigar sizes are normally expressed in terms of length and ring gauge, which is the diameter of the cigar in 64ths of an inch. Therefore, 7'' x 49 means that the Double Corona is 7 inches (17.8 centimetres) long, and 49/64ths of an inch (1.94 centimetres) in diameter. This cigar is a straight sided cigar.

The Double Corona's dimensions means that this cigar has several distinctive characteristics. Firstly, its large ring gauge means that it has a large surface area burning. This causes the smoker to not puff as hard and the result is a lower temperature. Secondly, its length means that the amount of tobacco between the smoker and the burning bit of the cigar is relatively high. The tobacco acts as its own filter and the cigar will taste cleaner than a shorter one.
