A two-year college located on a ranch in eastern California. Has only 24 students, all male. The education includes small group seminars and farm work, meant to instill feelings of brotherhood and toughness. The application process is incredibly rigorous and less than five percent of applicants are admitted. After the two years at Deep Springs, graduates generally transfer to the finest four-year colleges, including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, and the University of California at Berkeley.

All students at Deep Springs receive a full tuition and room and board scholarship. They are responsible for the day-to-day operation of their ranch, which is also an alfalfa farm. The student body is self-governing, and self-sufficient; the farm supplies beef, vegetables, milk, and a massive workload. Every afternoon is filled by the labor involved with maintaing a cattle ranch.
