Deathworld is also the name of a series of sci-fi books by Harry Harrison concerning the people of a planet nicknamed (surprise!) Deathworld. Properly named Pyrrus, it is the most lethal environment yet found by man, with everything from acidic quick-growing moss that waits until you sit, to velociraptor-like avians, to plants that try to take your marrow. How does man cope? By being Darwinistically selected to be fast as blazes, strong as an ox, tough as nails, and most importantly by carrying an enormous self-drawing hand cannon.

In any case, they're fairly entertaining.
