A securities market in which the highest bid price (the price at which someone is willing to buy a security) is higher than the lowest ask price (the price at which someone is willing to sell a security.) This is an abnormal market situation - normally, the last of the two best orders to arrive should have been executed against the one that was already posted when it arrived.
