Coal Miner's Daughter is the title of an autobiographical ballad (and novel, and movie) about the life and times of country great Loretta Lynn.

Loretta Lynn was the daughter of a coal miner in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. She married Mooney "Doolittle" Lynn at age 13, and had four children before she was old enough to vote. Her husband was impressed with how well she sang to her children, and encouraged her to get into singing, buying her her first guitar and later touring the country to promote her music.

Lynn released her first single "I'm a Honky-Tonk Girl" in 1960, joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1962, and went on to become the most successful female country singer of the 1960's.

The song was released on the album Coal Miner's Daughter in 1971. The movie came out in 1980. It starred Sissy Spacek as Loretta Lynn and Tommy Lee Jones as her husband.
