A characteristic of some Jewish sectarian communities. Chassidism originated in eastern European schtetlach, and has roots in Jewish mysticism, especially Kaballah.

Members of Chassidic communities tend to be rather strict in observing commandments and are often centered on a rebbe who interprets and adjudicates them for his followers.
