city in the United States, located several miles from Canada. Caribou's bordered on the north and west by the Aroostook River
, and on the south and east by the towns of Presque Isle
and Fort Fairfield
Settlers from New Brunswick, Canada began settling the area in the 1820s. The town was incorporated as Lyndon in 1859, and was changed to Caribou in 1877.
Attractions are mostly outdoors-related, such as hiking, skiing, and snowmobiling. There's also the Nylander Museum of Natural History.
Caribou's population is approximately 9,000.
