LPs begat blowing sessions and gave you 40 whole minutes! of listening pleasure; the period cool of Blue Note's 50's/60's LP covers (the work of Reid Miles, Francis Wolff, and, on occasion, a young Andy Warhol) has been mimicked in recent eras. The music was cooler still; you can't go wrong if you see the name (or - better yet - the face) of Miles Davis, Hank Mobley, Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, John Coltrane, or Lee Morgan on the cover.
