Baraboo is located in Sauk County, Wisconsin, nestled along the rolling hills of God's Country, Baraboo is a town that is rich with history. It is located 30 miles from Lodi, Wisconsin, and only a few miles drive from the "Wisconsin Dells". Baraboo is a great place to spend a day or two of your vacation to the Dells area. You will find many parks and  places to shop, dine, and have a fun day or night on the town with the family. Be sure to bring your camera, as there are a lot of places unique to the Baraboo area, that you will want to have pictures of for your family photo album.

Baraboo is an excellent place to take the family to for a summer vacation. It has many state parks. Each park has so much to do; you could spend a whole day at each one. The state parks in the Baraboo area are:

  • "Devil's Lake State Park" is a beautiful place to visit. It was formed by melting glaciers, which left 500 foot tall cliffs (bluffs), which you can climb using the trails, make sure you take plenty of water and wear good shoes. "Devils Lake" is over 350 acres. Over the years, I have spent many weekends camping here, and we always had a good time. There are many exciting things do at the lake including:
    • Swimming
    • Hiking
    • Fishing from shore
    • Fishing from a boat (electric motors only)
    • Scuba Diving, I have made several dives here over the years, it is a great place to scuba.
    • Canoeing
    • Camping
  • "Rock Arbor State Park" is spread over 250 acres, and is located within 2 miles of the "Wisconsin Dells". This park is a favorite of people who enjoy camping. You can choose to camp in one of over 80 campsites in the woods. Activities here are geared mainly towards people who enjoy the outdoors, activities include:
  • "Mirror Lake State Park" is very near the "Wisconsin Dells". "Mirror Lake" is set in beautiful surroundings. More than half of the lake has spectacular bluffs running along the shoreline. There are a variety of things to do at "Mirror Lake", such as
    • Fishing
    • Bicycle riding
    • Picnic dining
    • Camping
    • Cross country ski trails in the winter
    • Cabins specially equipped for Handicapped people
    • Relax by a campfire with family and friends
    • "Natural Bridge State Park" is a must see place, with its sandstone arch, and the shelter under it made of rock. It is said to have been used during the ice age, when the great glaciers started to melt. Those same glaciers formed a beautiful country side all over the Baraboo area. Be sure to take an afternoon, and spend time at this natural wonder.

If you are looking for something to do other than spending time in the great outdoors while you're in Baraboo, be sure to check out its most famous attraction, "Circus World Museum". Baraboo is famous for being the winter home of the "Ringling Brothers Circus". They are open seven days a week, 9 am-6 pm, and have over 100 thousand visitors each year. "Circus World" is where the "Ringling Brothers Circus" would park their circus for the winter, and would take their time off. It began to get popular with the locals and visitors alike. They would enjoy seeing the circus as they never have before. It was like a peek inside the circus that most people have never seen. The modern day "Circus World", reproduces the old "Ringling Brothers Circus", allowing visitors to see what it was like back when they first started coming to Baraboo. You can expect to see:

    • Parades
    • Big top circus performances
    • Carousel rides
    • A huge collection of antique circus wagons
    • Pony rides
    • Elephant shows
    • Picnic grounds
    • Circus items and memorabilia

Baraboo also host a wide variety of events during the summer. You can bet out of all of the events they hold, you will find something you like. Events include:

    • Outdoor concerts that include all kinds of music
    • Steam engine shows
    • Gas engine shows
    • Baraboo Rapids Rally
    • Several golf tournaments
    • Many different Train and railroad events
    • Dinner Trains in the fall, riding on an old luxurious diner car on the old railroad tracks, is really a treat.
    • Fireworks display on the 4th of July
    • Halloween events
    • Christmas parades, shows, and displays light up the cold winter nights.

As you can see, Baraboo is a great place to visit on your vacation to the "Wisconsin Dells" area. Be sure to take the time to explore these areas, you will truly enjoy your stay.

I have spent many summers in this area of Wisconsin. I have also been to every one of the places I listed here. I have never been disappointed by what Baraboo has to offer.
