Autumn twilight

translation of a poem by Lucian Blaga
From Romanian

From the mountain peak the twilight blows
with reddened lips
into the embers of the clouds
and agitates
the hidden hearth
within their thin and ashen undulations

A ray of light comes rushing from the west
and gathers wings and pauses trembling
upon a leaf and yet
the burden is too great
the small leaf tumbles.

Oh soul!
Stay hidden well within my breast
and hidden deeper
so not one ray of light can reach
and bring you down

It's autumn.
