A city in Israel on the Mediterranean coast about 40 km south of Tel-Aviv. It has one of three international ports in Israel, other being Haifa and Eilat. It now has over 150000 citizens.

In the past Ashdod was a city of Southern Palestine and was a member of Palestine pentapolis.
