One of the first British children's TV programmes, first broadcast in 1950 and the brainchild of Freda Lingstrom and Mary Adams, who created Watch with Mother, the first instance of programming especially for small children. The first 26 episodes were made in black and white: 13 new episodes were made in 1970, in colour. They were repeated frequently over the following 30 years.
Andy was a doll, who lived in a large laundry basket and came out to play with his friends Teddy and Looby Loo. The songs, including the closing 'Time to stop play', were sung by an opera singer, Gladys Whitred.
