I would walk past her parents' house at night
looking upwards toward
her bedroom
a muted scarlet light

Before I spent a single night there
I dreamed of that place
her bed
her body
that light

When asked to describe her room
She sent me a brief note:

I have a small futon,
Red shades, yes, because it is my favorite color.
I sleep with four stuffed animals and
no pajamas

I still have the letter,
written on white paper,
in a plain envelope.
