Kwaku Anansi, a trickster character in Ashanti mythology (from West Africa), is a clever (but sometimes stupid) spider. His wife's name is Aso. Like other trickster characters, he has many positively and negatively valued attributes, depending on the story. Greedy, clever, lazy, generous, deceitful, he is sometimes attributed with a role in creation.
