Add N to (X) is an experimental London rock band which combines rather abrasive rock with the proto-electronica of the 60's and 70's (think Wendy Carlos and Jean-Jacques Perrey put in a blender with My Bloody Valentine). While the synthesizers may sound ancient, the attitude is fresh, falling closer to punky art-pop than pretentious new-age. Unlike complete knock-off bands such as Komputer and Kraftwelt, Add N to (X) updates and improves on the old sounds, putting them stylistically closer to Stereolab or Tortoise.

Formed in 1994, the band now has four albums: Vero Electronics, On the Wires of Our Nerves (featuring cover art with band member Ann Shenton on an operating table with a synthesizer protruding from her exposed organ cavity), 1999's sophisticated Avant Hard, and the newly released Add Insult to Injury.
