"996" is a phrase used in many Chinese companies to refer to the expected hours of work: from 9 in the morning to 9 in the evening, 6 days a week. This equates to a 72 hour work week, and while it might be somewhat of an exaggeration, it does reflect a very real workaholic culture in China. Some people have suggested that the "996" culture is responsible for China's low fertility rate, as the culture of overwork expected from both male and female employees makes raising children very difficult. And probably many people have commented on what is titularly a socialist country having an extremely exploitative and capitalist economy, but that should probably be addressed elsewhere.
