Override

Override is an ongoing science fiction story. It's about a young man who has spent his youth working for a machine civilization which holds a lock on the technology of starflight, and which uses that power (and our young man) to enforce restricted technology levels on the human civilizations which spawned it. His only companion is a sentient hand weapon; ostensibly one of those same machines. Friend or keeper, it stays with him.
