Barcelona can actually refer to
a few things, not just the
city.
- There's Barcelona, the movie by Whit Stillman. It's his second film but third in the time line of the preppy romance trilogy, along with Metropolitan and The Last Days of Disco. It stars Stillman regulars Taylor Nichols and Chris Eigeman as well as Thomas Gibson and Mira Sorvino. It's about an uptight salesman (Nichols) from Illinois working at the Barcelona office of a US company, his somewhat less uptight cousin (Eigeman) who is stationed there as a US Naval Oficer, their escapades in the dating scene in the city, and their conflicts between each other and with the society they're in. Quite a good movie, and like all of Stillman's movies quotable like all get-out.
- There's Barcelona, the song by The Rentals. It's on their 1999 album Seven More Minutes.
- There's Barcelona, the band. Three web designers and one missile defense programmer from Washington, D.C. who decided to take up their free time with an indie rock project reminicent of Unrest with an even heavier new-wave/Factory records slant. The band consists of Jason Korzen, Jennifer Carr, Ivan Ramiscal, and Christian Scanniello. Their discography, primarily on March Records, includes simon BASIC, Robot Trouble, and zero-one-infinity, which is scheduled to come out in September of 2000. They're also quite proud of their computer geek status, with songs referencing IRC and teenage hacking days on Commodore 64s. They even have a song called "I have the password to your shell account". The mp3 for that is at their website at www.barcelonadc.com. They also take time out for soccer practice too.
