The
playing surface of a
pinball machine. Usually made of
wood that has been
painted and
shellacked and
waxed, though many modern machines use a
diamondcoat
process to ensure a
long-lasting,
smooth surface. Often has
plastic inserts to
show
lights through the surface. Everything else inside the playing area is mounted to
the
playfield directly or indirectly.
Some games have a mini-playfield mounted above or, rarely, below the regular playfield
which may only be used for certain special modes, or may be a major part of the game.
