City (pop 110 000 or so) and surrounding province (postal code/car registration letters VI) in the
Veneto region of
Italy, between
Venice to the east and
Verona to the west.
An attractive city, typical of the Po valley with an extensive medieval/renaissance centre; however, its primary attraction for culturally-minded tourists are the renaissance villas built in the surrounding countryside by Antonio Palladio in the 1500s. Apart from tourism, the city lives off the usual northern Italian mix of small specialist engineering and manufacturing companies.
