American country/folk singer who has been around for about 30 years now.
Originally started out singing with
Gram Parsons in the early 70s. She contributed backing vocals and some lyrics to his
GP and
Grievous Angel albums.
Since then she has produced more than a dozen solo albums and contributed to many many more.
Her voice seems to have become more unique and
heart-rending as the years go by and I think it's the best it's ever been. Her recent albums can hardly be considered purely country now, especially the 1995
Wrecking Ball, produced by
Daniel Lanois.
Red Dirt Girl is her first self-penned album for 15 years.
