hypertext pioneer, led the development of the original
HyperText Editing System (HES) in the 1960's, along with Brown U students and his Swathmore colleague
Ted Nelson.
Andy's subsequent work focuses on educational and scholarly use of hypertext, creating FRESS and Intermedia, and interactive Exploratories.
He also wrote a big computer graphics book. Andy inspired legions of students at Brown, converting unsuspecting English, Art History, or Physics majors into CS department chairs, CGI luminaries, and general hotshots who learned how to work hard and produce.
