Alvord Hot Springs, located at the edge of the Alvord Desert at the base of Steens Mountain is the most relaxing and peaceful hot springs in Oregon that I've visited. The springs are very remote, in Harney County, more than 100 miles from a town of any size. Denio, Oregon is a few miles south of the springs.

My best memories of Alvord Hot Springs is the time I basked in the 102 degree pool on a summer night with a full moon. Behind me rose the might Steens Mountain, a huge fault block rising almost a mile straight up. In front of me spread the glistening sands of the Alvord Desert, sparkling in the light of the moon. Of course the beauty of the night could have been enhanced by the mushrooms I had eaten earlier, but I'm not sure of that.
