One of the most well-known
researchers in
artificial intelligence and specifically within
machine learning. He was one of the originators of the modern study of machine learning, in particular developing historically important tools such as
ID3 and
C4.5. He also contributed to
inductive logic programming, with the development of his system called FOIL. He is
Australian, and for a long time lectured at the
University of Sydney.
