One of the three large
commercial television stations in
Australia (the others being
Channel 7 and
Channel 10) -- yes, in Australia, our TV channels are known by their
VHF channel numbers (although strictly speaking, each channel also has a three-letter
designation, e.g. channel 10 is TEN).
It is owned by Kerry Packer through his company Publishing & Broadcasting Limited. It is the ratings leader and has such ratings winners as the rugby league, sitcoms like Friends and 60 Minutes (yes, we have an Australian version).
