Return to MER (idea)

MER is a commonly used abbreviation in the Canadian (and probably others) [mutual fund] industry. It stands for [Management Expense Ratio], or the amount of money the mutual fund charges you to manage the fund. It is usually expressed as an annual percentage, the lower the better. It's a kind of "hidden charge", like bond commissions - you'll see it in the [prospectus] and annual report, but returns quoted in newspapers and on your statement will generally be net of the MER. Check out [Management Expense Ratio] for a more in depth discussion.
