Folks, we have got to stop this.
Proposition 22 is a hateful
California initiative to add just a few words to the
Family Code:
Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. This is otherwise known as the
Knight Initiative, which has been shot down 3 times before... State Senator
Pete Knight has been pushing this for -years-.
Even his own son, David Knight, is against it. (Of course, David's also gay, and he also tells many stories of his father's stubborn refusal to see anything outside of his own narrow-minded conception of how the world should be, even stopping talking to his own brother because his brother contracted AIDS.) And he's come out publically against it, several times, in the Los Angeles Times.
Of course, the only reason why anything like this -could- become law is because the misguided Federal Government passed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Every election since then, the Honorable Mister Knight has sought to make it illegal in California for anything outside of his narrow worldview to occur.
Please, help us stop Proposition 22. It goes to the ballot in a week, March 7th of 2000.
