rot13 takes text input to convert, either as a text argument, text file input, or piped:

echo 'decrypt this'|rot13
qrpelcg guvf

echo 'qrpelcg guvf'|rot13
decrypt this

rot13 

Simple enough. now decrypt that last message youself!

output can of course be piped into other commands for even more silliness or value:
echo 'decrypt this'|rot13|rev

now take that text and decrypt:



it's an occasionally useful tool, especially if you want to trivially hide text, as others in this node have discussed. Since USENET usage declined, so rot13 has become less used, but you'll still occasionally see it in discussion threads on Reddit, IRC and the like. Spoilers are a classic example.
