The Fargodome is a multi-purpose stadium located in Fargo, North Dakota. The stadium is home to the Bison football team of North Dakota State University.
The NDSU football team played home games for the previous decades at Dakotah Field, on the north end of the NDSU campus. Winter conditions in Fargo made football a very dangerous sport to play out doors, with very cold temperatures a normal occurrence. It was decided that new domed stadium should be constructed on land between Dakotah Field and Hector International Airport.
The architectural firm of Martin / Martin created the design for the Fargodome, and it was accepted by the NDSU administration in 1989. The Fargodome is not a dome in the traditional stadium sense. Instead it resembles more of an extremely large field house. Construction began in 1990, and the stadium opened to the public on December 2, 1992. In total, the stadium is composed of 5600 worth of materials, and cost roughly $48 million to complete. The stadium was built with a capacity of 18760 people (however, the attendance record is 19020, set in 2000).
Besides football, the stadium is also home to a host of other events. Large concerts are held here, including such acts as the James Taylor, Led Zeppelin, and Ozzy Osbourne. The Fargodome also hosts many trade shows, conventions, and other events in the Fargo-Moorhead area that requires a large venue. Just be sure to leave the alcohol at home; drinking is not allowed in or around the Fargodome.
