AMELD (thing)

The Active Matrix ElectroLuminescent Display is similar normal(passive) ELD in that it applies a voltage to phosphor that then emit light. But in the AMELD a silicon substrate is used. On this substrate an array of transistors is made. The phosphor is applied directly on each of these transistors. The control electronics is also fabricated directly on this substrate. This means you have a complete display module on one pice of silicon.

These screens have the same advantages as the ELD, but with the added advantage of the increased accurasy in voltage control. It is still in the prototype stages of development.
