Open Transport is the
networking API for
MacOS. It is based on
XTI streams and as such, offers more flexibility to the
programmer who wishes to swap out any part of the
networking stack with his own replacement.
It seems Apple is dropping Open Transport in favor of BSD style sockets in it's transition to MacOS X
