Grimbergen is a brand of
Belgian beer brewed by the Maes brewery in
Belgium. Originally made by the
monks of the Grimbergen
abbey in northern Belgium, production was halted due to
secularization around the time of the
French Revolution. Fortunately for us, the abbey was re-established in the mid-1800s, and the
nectar began flowing once again.
That I am aware of, there are currently four types of this beer offered: a dark double; a golden triple, a wheat variety called a blonde; and a doozie called the Optimo Bruno, which runs around 10.5% alcohol content by volume.
Grimbergen beers have complex appearances, flavors, and finishes, and are held in high esteem by the likes of Michael Jackson, the Beer Hunter. And no - I'm not talking about the silly little man with the glove.
