Norwegian football player born March 15, 1957 in Tyssedal, Norway. Played forward and midfielder throughout his career.
Roger Albertsen was one of those Norwegian football players that left home to become a professional, years before pro football was introduced in Norway. He spent 10 years in The Netherlands, Belgium and Greece, making a living in the midfield and forward positions on the football pitch. Not a brilliant player per the standards of those days - or indeed today - but a hard-working one. Nicknamed "Red Roger", supposedly for his political beliefs.
Played 25 caps for Norway, scoring 3 goals. He is credited for the legendary equalizer against England on September 9, 1981, which he later admitted never having touched.
He retired after the 1987 season, taking up position as a coach for Orkanger IF, a Norwegian 3rd division club.
Roger Albertsen died from cancer on March 2, 2003. He was 45 years old.
