The problem with prophecy is the use of statements about the future that one would use about the past.

The future is not the past, obviously, and is not yet known. By the time it is known, it is no longer the future; it is past.

Prophecy has always been the hope of many--but is it the panacea that is hoped for? If we actually knew what is to happen, why sould anyone do anything?!

Prophecy is the formula for inertia, if not depression.

We are, rather than looking to the future, are, as Walter Benjamin has described in his Theses on History looking at the wrekage of the past.
