Tackhead is Skip McDonald (guitar) and Doug Wimbish (bass), both ex Sugarhill Gang, with Keith LeBlanc on drums and Adrian Sherwood and/or Gary Clail behind the mixer. They are also the backing band for Mark Stewart. Skip and Doug are best known for being co-writers of the worlds first rap, namely The Message.
Tackhead were originally called Fats Comet.
Gary Clail has a side project called Tackhead Sound System, which is basically him remixing Tackhead tunes by himself.
Oh, and Tackhead is (or at least was) New Jersey jargon, meaning "homeboy".
