Legendary and groundbreaking cut and paste hip-hop track created by
Double Dee And Steinski as an entry for a mixing contest.
The contest was held by
Tommy Boy Records to remix
G.L.O.B.E. and Whiz Kid's
Play That Beat Mr. DJ to create extra interest in the track.
Their winning entry took that track and seamlessly spliced in segments of
Humphrey Bogart from
Casablanca,
The Supremes'
Stop In The Name Of Love,
Grandmaster Flash,
Bugs Bunny, dance instructions,
Herbie Hancock's
Rockit,
Culture Club's
I'll Tumble 4 Ya,
Indeep's
Last Night A DJ Saved My Life ,
Little Richard and many more to create a track that was stunning to hear when it was first released in 1983.
The track inspired many imitators but still sounds fresh itself today. Unfortunately due to copyright restrictions it`s unavailable to buy but is still possible to obtain via other means.
It`s also known as
Lesson One: The Payoff Mix and was followed later by
Lesson Two: The James Brown Mix and
Lesson Three: History Of Hip Hop Mix.
All three mixes end with the sample
And say childen, what does it all mean?.
