Situated in the Fitzroy Gardens, of Melbourne, this large old eucalypt stump was carved into by Ola Cohn in 1931. Ola spent 3 years carefully carving different fairies, animals, and insects, into the tree and then studiously coloured them. She made a gift of the 'Fairy Tree' to all the children of Melbourne and all those who believe in fairies. It was recoloured in 1997, and lives beside the model Tudor Village.
To adult eyes this isn't a very impressive piece of work, but it does hold a place in all the heart of any child of Melbourne, as we were/are all dragged there at some point in our early school years.
