MFN in US
legal speak stands for
Most Favoured Nation, while
PNTR stands for
Permanent Normalized Trade Relations.
Recently
China was granted permanent normalized trade realtions with the
United States so that its trading relationship, and the agreements that cover that relationship, do not need to be ratified year after year. Establishment of PNTR was also a condition to China's agreement with the United States for entry into the
WTO.
Politicians of all stripes lobbied for this "normalized" realtionship with
the world's largest police state and
largest communist country. Why then is there still a
trade embargo against
Cuba? Yes, I have my own theories as to why,
rhetorical question thrown out to the masses.
