A wonderful film by director
Juzo Itami. His first, preceeding his most popular work
Tampopo. It features some of the same cast (Tsutomu Tamazaki and his wife Nobuko Miyamoto for example).
An old man dies. His son is in the midst of a crumbling marriage, wedged in a passionate but loveless affair with his secretary. The son's family must pull themselves into a semblance of "normality" for the funeral proceedings.
Um. It's actually quite funny.
