The "Bodhisattvacaryavatara" ("Entering the Path of the
Bodhisattva)" is a
Sanskrit Buddhist text composed by the
pandit Santideva in the 8th Century.
As a rather late development of Indian Buddhism it has not had much influence on East Asian forms of Buddhist practice and study. However, it has been tremendously important to various schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
It contains a summary of various moral and ethical considerations basic to the Mahayana and ends with an analysis of the Madhyamikan view of sunyata (sometimes poorly translated as "emptiness" but better understood as "transparency").
