Former captain of the Australian cricket team, turned commentator. Nicknamed "Tubby Taylor".

Equalled Sir Donald Bradman's high score for an individual player of 334 not out in a single innings. Widely regarded as the best Australian cricket captain ever, and an outstanding batsman despite an extended slump in form that raised some doubt as to his eligibility for a place in the team toward the end of his career.

Retired from test cricket at the end of the 1998-99 summer season in Australia.
