In a
Japanese senior high school, the 事務室
jimushitsu or "staff room" is where
teachers have their
office space. Unlike
America, where teachers each have their own
classroom, students in Japan stay in the same room all day long, and the teachers run back and forth in between
periods.
A typical staff room is a large collection of desks lined up in rows, each of which is assigned to one member of the faculty. Only the principal gets to have a private office: everyone else is crammed into this room at the same time. Before and after class time, the staff room is usually full of both teachers and students, as it is the only place where students can go (outside of class) to see their teachers.
